SetFocus Receives 2009 New Jersey Smart Workplaces Platinum Award
SetFocus uses The GRID® technology in its training and business operations to reduce over one million pounds of carbon emissions.

SetFocus was a recent recipient of the New Jersey Smart Workplaces Award issued by the State of New Jersey and the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The Smart Workplaces Award is given to those New Jersey enterprises that demonstrate a commitment to assisting the State of New Jersey in accomplishing its goal of reducing harmful CO2 emissions throughout the state.
The company attributes much of the credit to The GRID®, a Global Remote Instructional Delivery system. Launched in 2005, The GRID enables SetFocus students to experience face-to-face, training via a live video and audio feed while accessing fully loaded computers from anywhere in the world.
“Prior to The GRID, our students and instructors traveled or commuted to the SetFocus facilities in Parsippany, New Jersey for thirteen weeks.” said Michael Landau, SetFocus CEO. “Now, in essence, we have full virtualization where over 90% of our students and instructors attend remotely using the SetFocus Cloud Computing Environment which provides them full access to the training software from any computer. The majority of students and instructors live out-of-state, however, local students often opt to be on the GRID, to save time and commuting costs.”
Beyond the classroom, SetFocus uses The GRID extensively in its daily operations. It has employees in sixteen states and more than two-thirds of the staff works remotely, either part or full-time. Teams routinely conduct departmental and one-on-one meetings. The whole company also “attends” quarterly staff meetings which enable everyone to feel connected and part of the larger organization.
SetFocus has also extended The GRID to its partners. Businesses have used the The GRID to recruit and interview candidates, deliver presentations and train staff in multiple locations. Companies that have used The GRID report increased efficiency and reduced time and travel costs.

- Reduce 1.2 million pounds of hydrocarbons
- Reduce 1.5 million commutation miles
- Reduce gas consumption by more than 65,000 gallons
- Save $130,000 in gas costs
