Upcoming version of SharePoint will integrate web traffic analytics features

Microsoft's SharePoint 2010 software, which is due to be released in mid-May, will incorporate a sophisticated suite of web traffic analytics, according to CMS Wire.
The tech news site reports that "this kind of integration will be especially handy for companies interested in pruning their unused sites (think old project pages), and it can certainly help with understanding how employees are actually using SharePoint itself, which is the first step in optimizing site design, terms, etc."
SharePoint data, CMS Wire reports, can be quickly and easily exported to Excel for use in graphs, charts, and spreadsheets. Additionally, SharePoint can be programmed to create such reports at regular intervals, or when certain conditions are met. (CMS Wire uses the example of alerting the user whenever traffic numbers drop by a certain amount week-on-week.)
The extensive array of new features present in SharePoint 2010 could be daunting even for seasoned IT professionals, who could benefit from a refresher course of SharePoint training. Experts say that tech workers without long experience with SharePoint should familiarize themselves as soon as possible, in order to improve their job prospects.
