U.S. Navy planning 250 new IT jobs

The United States Navy recently announced that it plans to hire 250 IT professionals in three separate locations around the country to help it transiton from its current network to the new Next Generation Enterprise Network. The positions are available in San Diego, Pearl Harbor and Virginia Beach - sites of three of the Navy's largest bases in the U.S.

The positions are available in a number of IT fields. Beyond the proposed network transition, all U.S. military branches have announced technology expansion initiatives in recent months. Hiring qualified IT professionals to manage and secure the highly sensitive systems is imperative to preventing security breaches or other system failures.

Navy Cyber Forces manpower director Katie Petrillo believes the positions represent a strong opportunity for both IT professionals and the Navy, as the branch of the U.S. military will receive improved web security, and the IT industry will continue its job growth.

As part of the government's plan to improve IT operations, the United States Air Force outsourced their development of a secure cloud-based network to IBM earlier this year. Much like the Navy, the Air Force has altered its IT structure to adopt new technology and make it more efficient.
