UK IT workers considering moving abroad for opportunities
4/26/2011 4:43 AM
It appears that many UK information technology professionals are considering moving abroad for greater salaries and quality of work, according to a report by the UK firm IT Job Board.
The firm surveyed 228 IT professionals and revealed that 67 percent said they were considering the move abroad or had already applied for positions. Of those surveyed, 71 percent said quality of work was the reason for the consideration, while 68 percent cited higher salaries.
Alex Farrell, IT Job Board’s managing director, said the results are alarming and UK companies should improve their offerings to keep talent from leaving.
"At a time when we are suffering an IT skills shortage, we cannot afford to lose key talent,” said Farrell. “The onus lies with business managers to develop and nurture their employees and to make the UK's IT job market an attractive one to work in."
Despite the uncertainty for the IT outlook for UK workers, worldwide IT spending is expected to reach $3.6 trillion in 2011, according to a report by Gartner.
