Tech companies hiring, offering perks to employees

The technology industry appears poised to continue adding more jobs, including some of the largest companies out there, according to a report by ABC News.
Search giant Google recently rented 100,000 square feet of office space in Venice, California, and plans to add 6,000 jobs. Economists said the potential hiring by Google will have a positive economic effect on the community, the article stated.
Computer programmer Boris Petrov has several job offers already, despite being a sophomore at University of California, Berkeley.
"They're paying us disgusting amounts of money," said Petrov. "How great is it to do something you really love for $5,500 a month in your sophomore year of college."
If open positions were not enough for potential tech workers, companies offer perks as well. Zynga, developer of Facebook’s Farmville, allows employees to bring dogs to the office, while all Microsoft employees recently received a 10 percent raise.
Small- and medium-sized businesses represent half of all information technology spending and are also planning to hire more workers. Jack Cullen, president of IT staffing firm Modis, told Information Week that SMBs are currently looking for developers, security experts, business analysts and employees with mobility skill sets to fill open positions.
