Sybase CEO cites more jobs as primary reason for acquisition

Despite resistance from his shareholders, Sybase CEO John Chen recently announced that he and the company's board of directors approved the deal, in part, to help create more IT jobs at the company, according to the Contra Costa Times. Sybase, a leader in enterprise and mobile software, currently employs nearly 3,900 people with 615 located at its headquarters in Dublin, California.
The deal is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of 2010. While no employment expansion plans have been announced by other side, Chen believes that Sybase will be asked to make improvements to SAP software on top of the work that the company already does, which will require more IT professionals.
"The current thinking is I don't expect anything but growth in terms of head count," John Chen, CEO of Sybase, told the news provider. "We definitely don't expect a reduction."
InvestmentU recently reported that with a quarter of Sybase's software-generated revenue coming from its development of mobile software, it expects that SAP will outsource a substantial portion of its plans for mobile software to the company.
