Survey shows significant growth in SharePoint adoption

A process and document management solutions company recently released the results of its survey on the usage of SharePoint, which reflect the high adoption rate of Microsoft's popular platform.

Results show enterprise adoption rates for the Microsoft business-intelligence platform could soar as high as 98 percent. The survey also found many companies using SharePoint 2007, with the number at 80 percent of respondents. Eight percent said they have adopted SharePoint 2010 since its release in May.

And respondents are utilizing nearly all that SharePoint offers. Twenty-seven percent of companies polled said they use over half of the documents stored in SharePoint to support mission-critical business processes.

Among challenges, respondents cited development time and effort required to build business applications at the top at 30 percent. The lack of intuitive, easy-to-use SharePoint-based interfaces for business users was cited by 21 percent.

According to a March independent report from Forrester Research, "SharePoint’s strengths as a collaboration environment have made it one of Microsoft’s shining stars." The Forrester report found SharePoint had sales of $1.3 billion in 2008, growing at about 25 percent per year.
