Survey says that migration to SharePoint 2010 will be large-scale

Nearly half of all businesses currently using any version of Microsoft's SharePoint software are planning to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 when it is released in mid-May, according to a new survey from Metalogix, a firm specializing in custom implementations of SharePoint.

Ivan O'Sullivan, Metalogix executive vice president, says that "this year's first survey shows that most SharePoint users are now on SharePoint 2007 and many are actively looking to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 when it becomes available."

Almost four out of five SharePoint customers surveyed by Metalogix say that they are currently running SharePoint 2007, rather than the older 2003 model. Of the reasons given by the 430 respondents to the survey for wanting to switch to SharePoint 2010, Exchange Public Folders and Windows NTFS FileShares were the most frequently cited.

SharePoint developers will have a big task in front of them when SharePoint 2010 is released to the public. They and many other IT professionals must work to smoothly and quickly integrate the new systems into their companies' existing computing frameworks.
