Survey: Collaboration is key to SharePoint 2010 implementations
4/6/2010 1:30 PM
Enterprise IT departments planning to implement Microsoft's SharePoint 2010 software are primarily interested in it for its social media and collaborative functions, according to the results of a poll conducted by CMS Wire.
The news site said that "organizations have spent a lot of time and money getting SharePoint 2007 implemented and well-governed. And while there are a great many improvements in SharePoint 2010, there are a lot of things that haven't changed, like the underlying infrastructure."
This meant that, while there were comparatively few shops looking to switch to SharePoint 2010, those that were anticipated that their previous SharePoint training and experience would stand them in good stead.
Other SharePoint developers, however, are eager to take advantage of some of the improvements that CMS Wire refers to. Network World cites a report from Forrester Research as saying that the new version's process management features are stronger than previous iterations, and that the Designer and Visual Studio integration were also found to be popular features among the IT professionals the company studied.
