Study: IT hiring in second half 2010 to exceed first half

Recent research on IT hiring is generating a higher level of optimism in employment for IT professionals during the second half of this year.

The Dice Report, which is a study of 600 IT recruiters and decision makers conducted by technology career website Dice.com, found 71 percent of respondents expect to add more IT professionals during the rest of the year than they did during the first half. According to officials familiar with the study, recent economic recovery has made many IT decision makers more comfortable with stocking up on IT professionals.

"Overall, employer confidence is improving," Tom Silver, senior vice president at Dice Holdings' North American sector, told IDG News service. "We hear that as we speak to our customers every day."

More than half of the 71 percent of respondents who plan to add more IT professionals during the next half of the year are planning to hire 10 or more. This is a significant sign of economic recovery for the IT industry, as IT budgets had previously been frozen for companies hit hard by the recession.

The Dice Report, which was released shortly after CDW's IT Monitor projected increases in IT spending during the second half of 2010, is further evidence of the new-found hope for hiring rates among IT professionals this year.
