Simple tips for improving IT productivity

There are several ways a company can speed up the progress on critical information technology projects.
InfoWorld’s Dan Tynan recently wrote an article highlighting how small improvements can have the greatest impact on productivity.
More than 70 percent of technology professionals said meetings were a waste of time. If a meeting is to take place, make sure the goal is to reach a consensus, rather than have every person say their piece. Turning off alerts for new instant messages will decrease distractions for workers, the article stated.
Instead of deploying large monitors, using multiple monitors provides greater accessibility to information, rather than searching through a bunch of windows on one monitor. Writing down what needs to be done is a simple, yet effective way for IT projects to be finished in a more timely manner.
Other tips IT workers can utilize for increased productivity include encouraging workers to use collaboration tools and to keep their mind open to new ideas.
One of the most popular collaboration tools, Microsoft SharePoint, was the subject of the latest Radicati Group’s survey. The group expects the distribution of small businesses to increase 2 percent by 2014.
