SharePoint helps automate workflow

Microsoft SharePoint is geared toward collaboration and is ideal for document management workflow.

A recent article by CMSWire’s Chris Wright highlights the benefits SharePoint offers companies, including automating a collaboration process. A SharePoint workflow can automate much of the administration and coordination process.

Companies utilizing a SharePoint workflow can expect several benefits, including workflow scheduling, execution, activity tracking and workflow extensions. Other benefits include using SharePoint Designer or Visual Studio, to construct workflows based on specific requirements.
The add-on Nintex helps companies build workflows graphically without leaving the SharePoint interface, the article stated.

“Workflow can help drive a wide range of collaboration tasks, not just those involving documents or document management,” wrote Wright. “It can enforce rules and procedures to what can otherwise be unstructured activities and can also provide automated or triggered reporting and notification tools.”

The Radicati Group recently released a report on SharePoint, including a distribution forecast on the collaboration software by businesses. According to the study, small businesses will increase SharePoint distribution by 2 percent by 2015, medium-sized businesses will decrease 3 percent, large businesses will decrease by 2 percent and very large businesses will increase 3 percent.
