The latest Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report projects an increase in IT jobs for the fourth quarter.

About 1,400 chief information officers from companies in the United States with at least 100 employees were polled. Data from the survey shows companies will slowly begin adding jobs through the end of this year.

"Those sectors that are feeling the early stages of the recovery are hiring," John Longwell, vice president of research at Computer Economics, said.

The survey found many companies will begin hiring when work begins on projects that had been put on hold during the recession. Almost half of the survey respondents said they expect their companies will invest in IT projects in the coming months.

Among other findings, survey respondents said their companies are also hiring for sales, marketing and distribution positions.

Signs of the technology jobs market recovery was evident early in the year. Through the first half of 2010, technology companies added 30,200 jobs, whereas they shed 143,000 jobs over the same period last year.
