Report: Job prospects better for Class of 2011

The overall market for career opportunities will be much better for the Class of 2011 than it was for students that graduated a year ago, according to the recently published Recruiting Trends 2010-2011 survey.
The report notes that job seekers in the area of information technology will face better prospects than those in publishing, nursing, social services and the health sciences.
Overall, the jobs market is expected to grow by 3 percent over last year, providing 122,000 opportunities. According to the report, this is mainly because larger companies have begun filling positions again, and small companies are creating new ones.
"The market for new college grads took a positive step forward with this increase," Phil Gardner, director of the Michigan State University's Collegiate Employment Research Institute, said in the report.
Thirty-two percent of respondents - clustered among 350 to 400 larger companies and those with nine to 100 employees - have definitive plans to hire new workers, including many IT employees.
There have been several recent reports of an improved job market for IT opportunities. According to the IT Employment Index from TechServe Alliance, the IT job market added 10,000 new positions in October.
