Report: Experimental 'Midori' concepts found in .NET framework
4/6/2010 1:44 PM
Microsoft's Midori operating system - an experimental cloud-focused piece of software - may have popped up in the company's .NET framework, according to the Software Development Times.
The tech news site says that "recent additions to the .NET Framework adhere to the concurrent programming principles outlined in the Midori documents that SD Times viewed in 2008. Silverlight and the Windows Azure platform could also be complementary to a potential release of Midori, the analysts said."
One analyst quoted by the SD Times said that the changes may be Microsoft's attempt to lay the groundwork for a large-scale shift to such cloud-based systems in the near future, given the increasing attention the company pays to interconnectivity between its systems.
All this could mean that IT professionals face a sea-change in the nature of the Microsoft products currently in the pipeline, and that even experienced .NET developers could see some surprises in the near future. Additional .NET training for IT professionals in the job market or in the workplace could prove a farsighted step.
