Real estate firm customizes SharePoint for greater collaboration

The commercial real estate firm Colliers International operates in 60 countries and uses Microsoft SharePoint to connect all of its employees, according to a recent report by Networkworld.

The firm has 500 offices and 15,000 employees, so connecting each is a difficult process. One problem the firm ran into was sending email blasts, which employees viewed as spam. Colliers then hired developers to implement a customized version of SharePoint.

After utilizing the collaboration software for a year, Colliers now connects all of its employees through integrated Exchange, SharePoint and Lync. The company also plans to migrate to Office 365, Microsoft’s latest cloud platform.

"We've created external connectors and specific portals for clients within SharePoint to let them view their personal dashboards, share documents and start discussion threads with Colliers employees,” said CIO Veresh Sita.

SharePoint is being utilized by millions of users in both the consumer and enterprise markets. Microsoft director of SharePoint product management Jared Spataro told ZDNet that the amount of new users adopting the collaboration software is 20,000 each day, reaching 7.3 million users each year.
