The IT jobs market added 10,000 new opportunities during the month of October, according to the new IT Employment Index from TechServe Alliance, an IT trade group.

The growth in the market constituted a 2.2 percent growth over the same period in 2009 and a 0.3 percent increase over numbers from September, according to the report. Overall, the IT jobs market now contains 3,903,000 opportunities.

Despite an economy that is still slow to recover, IT jobs have shown the most promise, according to the TechServe Alliance, whose report is based on Bureau of Labor Statistics and staffing patterns of IT and computer jobs in 16 different industries.

Also, the Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released a revised report on employment numbers for September. The BLS is now reporting an increase of 3,600 IT jobs in the month, not a loss of 2,000 jobs as previously announced.

Among the job areas experiencing the most growth, computer systems and design services grew by 0.5 percent, according to the BLS. There are now 1,470,900 jobs in the field.
