Microsoft released several important updates to some of its most central product lines on Monday, including the long-awaited .NET framework 4.0 and the developer toolset Visual Studio 2010.

Microsoft's server and tools president, Bob Muglia, said that "we're excited to celebrate the launch of Visual Studio 2010 with developers around the world today. Customer and partner feedback was instrumental in shaping this release. The functionality of Visual Studio 2010, .NET Framework 4 and Silverlight 4 creates a powerful and unique combination, opening up new opportunities for developers to build applications that take advantage of new and existing devices, as well as emerging platforms like cloud services."

While the rate at which businesses will adopt the newest versions of the software is unknown, experts say that IT professionals would do well to brush up on their familiarity with the new products to maximize their value to a prospective employer. Additionally, tech workers between jobs could increase their chances of rejoining the workforce by making sure they are up-to-date with the latest Microsoft products.
