Microsoft excited about release of newest SQL Server

Later this month, Microsoft's SQL Server 2008 R2 will ship and become available to the general public. According to NetworkWorld, the new product is powerful enough to manage nearly 250 CPUs on its own and has an increased storage capacity compared to its predecessor.

The only problem that the server presents is that users must update their software and operating system to the newest Microsoft releases to use it. Windows 7 has received positive reviews since its release earlier this year, while Microsoft Office 2010 is set for a May 12 release for enterprise users.

Among the most well-received new features of the R2 model is a single dashboard option that allows IT professionals to manage multiple servers from a single platform.

The improvements of the newest SQL Server over its earlier model may be enough of a reason for companies to upgrade to Office 2010. Tech Target reported in April that, while it was a better overall program than Office 2007, many of the newer features in Office 2010 did not provide enough of an incentive for users - enterprise or personal - to upgrade.
