Integrated document capture system announced for SharePoint 2007

Electronic documentation firm IRIS recently announced that its new digital document capture system would be directly integrated into Microsoft's SharePoint 2007 software.
The company said that "this IRIS - Microsoft alliance enables the user to scan and index documents while automatically identifying document types. Those images are then converted into hyper-compressed, fully searchable PDF, PDF/A-1b or XPS files. Finally, those files are exported with their indexes into the appropriate Microsoft SharePoint document library."
The new product also includes a wizard that IT professionals can use to quickly upload documents to SharePoint without having to tweak numerous settings, which, IRIS said, makes importing large amounts of documents to a management system much easier than before.
CMS Wire's David Roe speculated that, with the digitization of records and compliance functions an increasingly central concern for IT departments, robust solutions like that offered by IRIS could become critically important in the future. Roe also noted that the market for such products has become increasingly competitive in recent months, and that IRIS is hardly alone in its business sector.
