The results of a recent InformationWeek survey comparing platforms suggests prospective IT professionals should focus on Microsoft business intelligence, as the company's offerings topped the list in just about every category.

InformationWeek based its findings on responses from 410 companies currently using or planning to deploy business intelligence technologies. It found 49 percent of respondents use Microsoft business intelligence, easily outpacing the 38 percent that cited Oracle's products. Another 6 percent of respondents have plans to implement Microsoft BI.

Also, 10 percent of respondents are currently evaluating the platform, while 25 percent reported having no use for Microsoft's system. The latter was the smallest number by far. The next closest was Oracle, which 41 percent of respondents have no use for.

An IDC study published in June of this year revealed Microsoft's BI solutions were among the fastest growing on the market. Usage of the company's platform was up 8.1 percent over 2009, compared to 6.9 percent for IBM and 4.5 percent for SAS. Overall, Microsoft was fifth in terms of overall usage.
