IT spending to increase for SMBs

Small businesses simply do not have the resources and deep pockets of larger companies, so finding ways to increase productivity is a necessity.
According to the InformationWeek Outlook 2011, small- and medium-sized businesses are increasing spending on information technology, especially for collaboration between employees and business partners.
The survey included 260 technology professionals at companies with 1,000 employees or fewer. Of those surveyed, only 15 percent reported they are decreasing IT spending, while one-third said they would increase IT spending during 2011. Slightly more than half said their IT budget would remain the same.
“The key for small business IT leaders is to recognize early when their collaboration or information-sharing processes are breaking down and impeding the business,” wrote InformationWeek’s Randy George. “A slew of emerging collaboration systems can help SMBs, but this decision's much more nuanced than building a storage or data communication network.”
A separate report by Robert Half also shows optimism for the IT landscape. Of those surveyed, 80 percent of chief information officers feel confident their companies can hire more IT staff in the coming months.
