IT professionals with varied skills sought

The most recent statistics released by the United States Department of Labor indicate that companies created more IT jobs in April than they had since the global economic recession of 2008. However, Network World recently reported that not all IT professionals are in demand. Those with far-reaching skill sets and the ability to perform multiple tasks are among the most widely sought after.

IT employees that consistently update their skill sets are especially useful to companies as new trends in the industry arise. Cloud computing specifically has become an actively sought skill due to the use of data centers.

"Workers are being asked to manage more systems and deal with new technologies that are being introduced, while data centers are being asked to do more things for the business and provide better service levels," Sean Derrington, director of enterprise product management for Symantec, told the news provider.

Following the report from the DOL, Wanted Technologies released its own statistics that found 185,000 advertisements for IT positions in the U.S. - the company tracks more than 1,000 job boards and websites. Available positions in New York grew by 74 percent from April 2009 with 14,670 positions created.
