IT professionals say local database support on Windows Phone 7 is lacking

While the upcoming reboot of Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system - in the form of Windows Phone 7 - will boast a number of new features, some IT professionals with extensive SQL Server and .NET training say that the database support on the new devices could be limited.
Kevin Hoffman, writing at the .NET Developer's Journal, says that "I was originally quite surprised at the decision not to include a SQL Express edition because the .NET Compact Framework comes with an insane amount of support for talking to local and remotely synchronized SQL databases."
Hoffman offers a workaround, however, using what he refers to as "POCOs," or Plain Old Database Objects to replicate the functionality that would have been provided by more extensive support for .NET framework and SQL server.
This lack of functionality, coupled with the increasing importance of mobile internet devices in the world of enterprise IT, could mean that expert .NET developers see widespread demand for their services in the aftermath of Windows Phone 7's release.
