IT professionals discover SQL server consistency and integrity errors

The DBCC checkdb application that SQL server developers use to verify the integrity and consistency of files in an SQL server database can sometimes be the bearer of bad news, according to tech blogger Gram Smith.

According to Smith, "this behavior occurs due to corruption to MDF (Master Database File) of Microsoft SQL Server and renders all your valuable data inaccessible. It leads to critical data loss situations. In order to get your mission-critical data back in such cases, SQL Database Recovery through reliable applications, is required," he wrote in an article for developer's journal .Net.

Smith writes that there are a number of steps that IT professionals can take to discover more information about the errors and to repair them once they have all the facts. Microsoft, Smith says, even offers a hotfix to help undo the damage as a free download on its website.

In some situations, however, further assistance could be required. Experts say that IT professionals who have the requisite SQL server training should be familiar with the resources that they need to fix any troublesome database corruption.
