North Carolina boasts one of the United States' fastest-growing IT jobs markets, according to a study recently released by SkillPoof, Tek Systems and the North Carolina Technology Association. In general, IT companies in the state post more than 2,400 new openings on a daily basis.
The numbers represent a growth of more than 500 per day compared to March and greater than 1,000 since February. In April 2008, IT jobs available in the state averaged 3,690 every day, but the total fell more than 300 percent to 1,140 in April 2009.
The number of jobs available has not returned to the spring 2008 levels, but has climbed to roughly the same level as it did in the fall of 2008.
IT professionals with SQL server training are among the most widely sought employees in the state with 340 available positions and an additional 240 specifically for those trained in Microsoft SQL servers.
Wanted Technologies recently reported that the national demand for skilled IT professionals has risen by 34 percent since April 2009. Grants and other funding from various government programs along with a renewed focus on improved IT operations are among the primary reasons for the growth.
