IT jobs in NC continue to open up, report finds

The job market for IT professionals in North Carolina showed a significant increase last month.

The North Carolina Technology Association's recent employment report found the number of IT job openings jumped 18.5 percent during July. This summer's economy has shown dramatic improvement from 2009, as last month's 3,970 IT job openings in July is more than three times higher than the number of job openings in the same month last year.

"Currently, North Carolina is one of the few states where an economic recovery, at least for IT professionals, could be on the way because of the strong increase of demand for additional staff," the authors of the report wrote.

IT professionals in North Carolina can look forward to exceptionally high employment opportunities compared to the national economy, as the state's IT job market numbers in July exceed the national 2.6 growth. Currently, the number of employed IT professionals in the state stands at 118,610, which is 4.5 percent higher than the workforce in July 2009.

The NCTA's monthly index on job availability shows July is the sixth consecutive month for growth in IT job availability for North Carolina's IT professionals, a sign of continued economic improvement for the sector.
