IT jobs contribute to Pennsylvania employment growth

Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell recently announced that Pennsylvania added 34,000 jobs in April, second only to Ohio in the United States, according to Philly.com. The governor cited the healthcare industry as the largest contributor with hospitals throughout the state and nation looking to add IT professionals to improve their operations.

The state's unemployment rate in April fell to 9 percent, which is 0.9 percent lower than the national figure of 9.9 percent. Other fields such as construction and manufacturing contributed to the state's growth.

George Tsetsekos, dean of Drexel University's LeBow College of Business, reports that higher education and healthcare accounted for a substantial portion of the job growth. Both industries are in the market for experienced IT professionals to develop and maintain new projects that leverage new technologies to improve efficiency.

Beyond the need for qualified IT professionals in the healthcare industry, a recent report from Troy Media indicates that there are other IT fields that companies will soon begin hiring for as they finalize their hiring budgets for fiscal year 2011. Disaster recovery, Troy reported, will be one of the fastest growing IT fields with companies more cognizant than ever of the dangers of data loss.
