IT industry added 9,700 jobs in July

The IT job market saw another month of significant growth in July, according to recent research.

The TechServe Alliance, which is a collaboration of IT service firms, clients, suppliers and consultants, revealed the industry added 9,700 jobs in its IT index for the month of July. Since the beginning of 2010, the IT industry has added 63,000 new jobs - a 1.7 percent growth from the previous year - to reach 3,875,500 total jobs in the country.

"Despite a generally anemic employment environment, IT employment continues to show strength," said Mark Roberts, the TechServe Alliance's CEO. "With July's growth, IT employment has increased in each of the last seven months."

IT workforce numbers in July of this year were nearly 1 percent higher than the market in July 2009, indicating a strong progression from the economic recession. As the recent downturn has proven the economy is unpredictable, experts advise job-seekers to invest in training for IT jobs while the market is hot.

"While IT employment would not be immune should the recovery derail, at present we remain very bullish on continued growth in the sector for the foreseeable future," Roberts added.

July may have been the starting point for an expected strong second half in the IT job market, as the recently released Dice Report found 71 percent of IT recruiters plan to increase their hiring from the first half of 2010.
