Several IT jobs have made the U.S. News & World Report list of the top career opportunities for 2011.

Released last month, the report, which does not rank the careers, identifies developer and programmer careers among the tops in the country this year. In fact, the magazine identified these careers as one of the "fastest-growing corners of the job market."

The report cites the U.S. Labor Department's estimate that developer and programmer job openings will experience 32 percent growth by 2018. The median salary range is between $87,480 and $93,470.

U.S. News & World Report acknowledges the careers offer plenty of room for growth. Developers and programmers often experience vertical moves into project management and software architecture, according to the report.

Network architect, computer systems analyst and computer support specialists also made the list of 50 top jobs.

Gains in the technology job market picked up in October, according to the IT Employment Index from IT trade group TechServe Alliance. The market experienced 2.2 percent growth over the same period in 2009 and a 0.3 percent increase over numbers from September, according to the report. Overall, the IT jobs market now contained more than 3.9 million opportunities at the time.
