Google Docs and SharePoint can work together, thanks to third-party solution

Software maker Mainsoft announced last week that it had released Harmony, a GUI-based application that allows for the easy transfer of files between Google Docs, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft SharePoint.
The program, which is available for free, is "based on the premise that it should be easier for people to work together on documents," Mainsoft said in a statement. Since email is still the primary electronic business communication tool, the company says that ensuring interoperability between some of the most popular enterprise file sharing systems is helpful to IT professionals.
Mainsoft CEO Yaacov Cohen said that "adapting email to the new world of collaboration technologies is something being addressed across the industry, with both Google and Microsoft transforming their own email client experiences. Harmony offers a cross-vendor, cross-platform approach, which delivers an integrated user experience across Microsoft Outlook and Google Docs, and makes document sharing a lot more accessible to end users."
The increasing popularity of Google Docs - coupled with the upcoming launch of SharePoint 2010 - makes for a rapidly changing IT landscape, experts say, and IT professionals might need some career development to keep up.
