Full-time tech workers in higher demand

The Sacramento Bee reports that IT professionals are seeing an increase in the number of available full-time jobs due to increased employer confidence.

The paper cited a recent Dice.com jobs report, which found that the number of full-time positions had risen 40 percent compared with May 2009. The ratio of full-time to part-time positions also reached 62 percent, a new high-water mark for the past year.

"In order to add permanent staff, companies must have confidence in their business outlook, and that's what we're starting to see," Tom Silver, a senior vice president at Dice.com, told the paper.

In the Sacramento area, the Bee found that IT job openings rose roughly 50 percent compared with last year.

The paper says that many companies are adding staff to introduce new infrastructure upgrades which were postponed during the recession.

The increase in IT jobs follows a growing trend across the country. Postings in traditionally high-tech areas such as Washington D.C., New York and Silicon Valley - which together represent about a third of available IT jobs - showed increases of 68 percent.
