Former Obama administration official optimistic on IT jobs prospects

As the overall U.S. economy and jobs market continue to recover from the recession, a former Obama administration official said the IT jobs market figures to flourish this year.
Lawrence Summers, former chief economic adviser and director of the National Economic Council for President Barack Obama, expressed his optimism in a recent interview with CNN. Summers said recent technological innovations will drive the need and demand for companies to add IT employees.
“What’s happening in information technology, which was so dramatic in the 1990s, [and a] little more quiescent in the middle of this decade is taking off again," Summers told CNN's Fareed Zakaria.
Summers said it is likely certain job markets will struggle to rebound from the recession, but the IT sector doesn't figure to be one of them.
Several experts have expressed optimism about the job prospects of professionals with IT skills. Forrester Research chief operating officer Charles Rutstein recently told the Boston Globe companies recognize the importance of technology-savvy employees and will hire more such professionals this year, even if not to fill spots within the IT department.
