In the first quarter of 2010, the Fairfax County, Virginia Economic Development Agency helped create 645 jobs in 29 businesses, according to NewsBlaze.com. A majority of these positions were IT jobs in the private sector as part of a rapidly expanding number of foreign-owned firms in Fairfax County.
Of the 29 companies that received aid for the county, three received enough to create more than 85 positions with their organization. Cox Communications will make 87 new hires in the coming months, but the two largest benefactors were Acumen Solutions, a business technology and consulting firm which will create 100 jobs and QinetiQ North America, which will add 200 jobs.
"We are very proud and fortunate to be based in Fairfax County. The depth, diversity and education of the available workforce, along with the business-friendly environment, made it an easy decision when we chose McLean as our headquarters location," Mike Stolarik, QinetiQ North America's president and chief operating officer, told the news provider.
In general, IT has been one of the fastest growing employment sectors in the United States. However, IT management and consulting firms have seen the most growth with businesses throughout the country attempting to restructure their IT departments to encourage efficiency, according to Channel Insider.
