Socialcast, a software product that experts describe as the business version of Twitter, announced Wednesday that it would introduce integration for Microsoft's SharePoint framework and other new features in its future products.

Carrie Young, writing for the Socialcast blog, said that "this integration places our real-time lightweight communication stream on top of SharePoint, making collaboration accessible right from the SharePoint dashboard. The tool empowers both end users and IT administrators by allowing them to import their Socialcast stream directly into SharePoint, for seamless workflow," among many other new uses."

In addition, Young writes, the SharePoint integration feature will allow IT professionals and other staff to share and comment on audio and visual media, and both SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010 will be supported. The support for SharePoint 2010 is particularly timely, as that product is due for widespread release in the very near future.

The new functionality offered by Socialcast could allow SharePoint developers to coordinate their efforts even at a great distance, increasing their operational efficiency when telecommuting by leaps and bounds.
