Hiring demand for qualified IT professionals has risen by 34 percent compared to this time in 2009, according to Wanted Technologies. The company developed the statistic based on posted positions in the more than 1,000 job boards and websites that it tracks. Despite the growth, Wanted reports that the numbers still lag from their peak in 2008 before the global economic recession.
In April, Wanted found more than 185,00 advertisements online for available IT jobs. At the same time last year, the company reported 134,000 similar positions on the websites that it tracks. IT jobs available in New York grew the most of all the states with a reported 74 percent growth for a total of 14,679 more positions.
"Hiring demand for IT professionals has shown real improvement over the past year," Bruce Murray, CEO and president of Wanted Technologies, said.
The most recent statistics released by the United States Department of Labor found that 8,800 IT jobs were created in the country last month compared to March. In the last seven months, according to the DOL, there have been more than 25,000 IT jobs created.
