Data warehousing and BI evolve into modern IT infrastructure, expert says

IT professionals have seen big changes in the degree to which data warehousing and business intelligence have been integrated into the overall business computing landscape over the past few years, according to an analysis published at B Eye Network by Barry Devlin.

According to Devlin, "far more weight is placed on speed and flexibility of decision making, and ever more sophisticated analytics. We see this in diverse technology trends from operational BI through data appliances to 'post-relational' databases and stand-alone analytic and dashboard environments."

Devlin urges caution in adopting whiz-bang new data technologies and neglecting the company's existing data warehouses, saying that some of the new systems will invariably prove to be unreliable or contain crippling flaws. However, Devlin and others allow that the modern business environment demands new solutions to the problems it poses for enterprise IT.

The changing face of the modern IT profession also demands that IT professionals train themselves to take advantage of the new opportunities that it presents. In an environment where, polling data shows, a majority of tech workers can't accurately define cloud computing, knowledge can give companies an edge.ADNFCR-3071-ID-19654612-ADNFCR
