Comparisons between Google Docs and Microsoft's Web Office unavoidable, expert says

Microsoft and Google have been increasingly involved in each other's core markets of late, and Mike Ferrara of CMS Wire says that the user experiences offered by the two sets of programs are comparable.
According to Ferrara, "Google's monopoly on inventing just about every cool web tool is coming to a close. Their dominance taught Microsoft a valuable lesson about what people really want from an online experience." He goes on to demonstrate the Google Docs-like functionality possible when using Windows Live Skydrive.
SharePoint 2010, Ferrara says, will also provide for further cloud productivity options: "At a very high level, the Office 2010 Web Apps server components will install service applications right into your SharePoint farm. There are front end components and application server components that can be load-balanced just like any of the other service apps available in SharePoint 2010."
SharePoint training could be imperative for IT professionals at companies planning on switching to the web versions of the venerable Office productivity suite, experts say, and even Google Docs users might be well advised to make such a move.
