An increase in overall IT spending in 2011 could translate into more business intelligence career opportunities, according to a recent report from the Corporate Executive Board.

Next year, many of the top U.S. companies will need to increase BI-trained IT employees as they wade through the next phases of ERP, according to the report. Many of the companies have already gone through one or two waves of ERP and have automated the structured processes.

Now, companies will need help in "navigating continued macroeconomic uncertainty, with constraints on capital availability, customer fickleness and broad employee skepticism," according to the report.

Among the industries that may look to hire the most are software and IT services, pharmaceuticals and energy. The Corporate Executive Board expects those industries to increase spending by 6 to 7 percent. Hardware and electronics, restaurant and hospitality services, utilities and financial services will increase budgets by 3 to 5 percent.

Overall, there is expected to be 1 percent growth in the overall IT jobs market as companies expect to increase internal staffs as well as contractor positions.
