Boom in BI maturity may feed need for analytics skills

A recent report from Forrester Research suggests that companies may look to add professionals with business intelligence solution experience to their IT departments as analytics deployments mature.
According to the report, maturity levels for companies' business intelligence platforms increased 5.7 percent last year compared to 2009. Forty-three percent of respondents have deployed agile BI and self-service BI, while another 38 percent are utilizing centralization and consolidation.
As BI matures and companies place a greater focus on analytics "new approaches, such as agile BI and BI self service by the business users, are needed to supplement traditional BI," Forrester principal analyst Boris Evelson said. That suggests companies are in need of professionals with such skills.
Companies may also reconsider their procedures to hire, train and retain skilled BI staff. Forrester found 46 percent of respondents are unhappy with their current processes for doing so.
A separate Network World report suggested that BI could be a strong area for tech jobs this year. Analyst firm Foote Partners CEO David Foote told the news provider that companies will search for specific skills this year, and BI will be near the top of the list of needs.
