Boeing project would mean 4,500 jobs in California

Boeing recently announced that California would earn 4,500 jobs and $233 million if its NewGen Tanker receives the contract from the United States Air Force for its next aerial tanker refueling project. A majority of the positions would be in manufacturing, but managing the tanker would result in IT jobs for residents of the state.
The NewGen Tanker is equipped with the newest technology required to run the aircraft, including computer systems that ensure the plane operates seamlessly. Boeing is currently developing its proposal for submission to the Air Force, and it expects to hear a decision at some point in the fall or winter.
"Californians have played a key role in many of America's most important defense programs, and we'll need their help to build a fleet of NewGen Tankers if we win this critical U.S. Air Force contract," Mark DeVoss, supplier management director for Boeing Tanker Programs, said.
Boeing recently landed contracts from the Federal Aviation Administration that total more than $4 billion over the next 10 years, according to the Washington Post. A majority of the tasks detailed in the contracts are to help the FAA update its technology within its aircrafts.
