70 percent of technology jobs are in IT services

New figures released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show technology services gained the most jobs among technology industries over the summer, adding 28,600 new positions between June and September.
At 19,500, new IT jobs accounted for 70 percent of the technology services positions created. Within this segment, the communications equipment and computer and peripheral equipment job markets have shown increases. The two have gained nearly 6,000 jobs since March, according to Foote Partners.
“It is important to point out that businesses are looking to the IT services industry to help them get their work done and this has created some healthy jobs growth in the sector,” according to a Foote Partner's analysis of government numbers.
Foote Partners found companies are not depending entirely on consultants and managed services. The company said its clients are hiring workers with specific skills and experience.
Other areas where technology professionals may find ample job opportunities are within so-called green industries. Research from Clean Edge suggests job growth could be prevalent in this area, based on the fact that 3 million green industry technology jobs were created last year.
